The man was identified as Sadam Hussain of Azad Nagar. Police said Sadam Hussain’s brother Raja, who was passing by MMDA Colony on his two-wheeler, was intercepted and since he said he was on his way to buy rice, the bike was seized as venturing beyond two kilometres from residence, other than for emergency reasons, was prohibited as part of the stringent lockdown.

While Raja surrendered the vehicle and left, his brother Sadam Hussain reached the spot a few minutes later and argued with police that the latter are letting go other vehicles without checking. It is said that Sadam Hussain tried to stop a woman doctor on a two-wheeler and police sensing a problem tried to clear the spot. However, he allegedly argued with police saying they were all COVID patients after which police forcefully made him board the patrol vehicle.

While the video of about 10 police personnel forcing him into the vehicle went viral, a senior official, when contacted, said the man was let off without being booked since he and family members apologised for his action. “The vehicle seized from his brother will be released after June 30,” said the official.
