“The city saw light to moderate rains on Sunday, due to upper air circulation (UAC). The weather conditions will continue on Monday as well, as light to moderate showers are expected. Any increase in the humidity is due to the moisture from the rain,” said S Balachandran, Director, Regional Metrological Department, Chennai.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature recorded at Nungambakkam was 35 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature at Meenambakkam was 35.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatures recorded at the stations was 29.6 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively. Nungambakkam recorded 17 mm of rainfall, and Meenambakkam got 6.2 mm. Kodaikanal saw 3 cm of rain on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu weatherman Pradeep John stated that the city can gear up for stronger rainfall as steering wind condition increases. “As the day went on, the increased heat will help the rains in North TN, including Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai and Chengalpet.

Other districts such as Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Villupuram, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Salem and Dharmapuri will also be in line of rains,” he said.
