In a statement, MNM vice president Dr R Mahendran said that as on date, 5700 volunteers have enrolled and have received calls from 54,000 people for assistance. “The website was designed in such a way that the help reaches the needy people,” he said, noting that considering the fact that number of people impacted by the lockdown was more than those affected by the coronavirus, the website would allow the volunteers to help the needy people. “Those seeking help via the website will be sorted according to their pin code. The volunteers can then reach out to those in need around where they live in person, or via others in the vicinity,” he said.

Dr Mahendran said that the public could donate groceries required for 14 days for four-member family and materials required to protect themselves from the infection. “People who can serve as volunteers could register on the website. Those who can provide monetary assistance could donate the same through the website,” he said, adding that the website will contain information about how many volunteers have registered and how many requests for help have been attended to by the volunteers.
