The police control room received the call around 12.20 am and though the man on the other end seemed drunk, alerted Virugambakkam police. Soon, two patrol teams rushed to the two houses of the actor in the locality and conducted inquiries. After inquiring with the persons staying in the house, a bomb detection and disposal squad and a sniffer dog were commissioned to check both the premises.

After ensuring that there were no suspicious objects around the houses, BDDS declared the call a hoax, after which the control room was asked to trace the caller. They found that the call was made from Marakkanam in Villupuram district. The local police secured the caller and he was identified as Bhuvanesh. However, since he seemed mentally unstable, police inquired his family members.

The control room had received similar calls in June claiming that bombs have been planted in the house of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and actor Rajinikanth.
