Corpn AE suspended over indecent proposal

Even as the police began a probe into alleged improper behaviour and the accused’s tele-conversation with the girl, a second-year degree student in a college in the city, the civic body has placed the officer, identified as Kamalakannan, AE of ward 60, Royapuram and functioning from Corporation office on Thambu Chetty Street, under suspension, sources said.

“The assistant engineer of Greater Chennai Corporation has been placed under suspension for alleged misconduct with a female employee based on certain preliminary evidence. Apropos to the suspension, due inquiry into the issue will continue,” official sources noted.

The recorded conversation of the official with the girl showed that the man was soliciting sexual favours from her because he was instrumental in getting her the COVID health worker job, at a salary of Rs 15,000 per month. He went on to say that if he had seen her two years back, before his marriage, he would have married her. He further says that he likes her very much in special ways and discloses that he earns Rs 78,000 as salary.

Flower Bazaar All-women Police confirmed receiving a complaint from the girl and said both sides will be summoned for enquiry before registering a case.
