The protestors, most of them conservancy workers, said that most of the workers are from outside Chennai Corporation limit and they are facing problems every time while crossing the border. "The police personnel posted at the check post refuse to let us in and sometimes they use insulting language against the workers. We have been pointed out the issue to the officials several times but in vain," a worker said.

The worker alleged that a police constable attached to the Neelankarai police station threatened a worker while trying to report to the work. Following the protest, officials of the Corporation and police department held a talk. The protest was called off before noon and the workers went to their workplace, based on a promise of action against the constable.

L Srinivasan, general secretary of Chennai Corporation Redflag Union, said that not only the workers are facing the police problem while entering the city, but also some officials, who are residing outside the city, also have been facing the issue.

"Recently, the police seized a Chennai Corporation earthmover and threw abusive works on the driver. On Wednesday too, the workers staged a protest in front of Neelankarai police station," he added.
