Man held for robbery, hunt on for accomplices

RK Nagar police arrested a 24-year-old man and have launched a hunt for two of his accomplices for robbing people who indulged in the illicit sale of liquor and peddling of ganja in different parts of North Chennai.

The accused was identified as R Modi alias Mouli of Besant Nagar. While he was booked under Sections 294(b), 341, 392, 397 and 502(2) of IPC, a hunt has been launched his men identified as Thennarasan and Ilavarasan.

 The trio attacked and demanded Rs 10,000 from Jagan (41) of Korukkupet, a truck driver, who was involved in the illicit sale of liquor due to joblessness. When the latter told them that he did not have liquor bottles, they attacked him with weapons before fleeing the spot with Rs 3,000.

 The gang also attacked Vasanthakumar of Korukkupet and robbed him of Rs 1,500 after which they attacked a ganja peddler Appu alias Prasath at Meenambal Nagar and robbed his mobile and Rs 1,000. Based on a complaint by Jagan, police secured Modi and remanded him.

 Snatcher held within hours

 Meanwhile, JJ Nagar police arrested a snatcher within hours after he escaped with a 1.5-sovereign gold chain of a woman pedestrian. The incident happened on Saturday night when Geetha (37) of Tiruverkadu was walking at Golden George Nagar. A man intercepted and threatened her to part with her chain. When she refused, he snatched the chain and fled. After Geetha approached JJ Nagar police, they launched a hunt and secured the snatcher. He was identified as V Ashok Kumar (38) of Ayappakkam. The chain was retrieved and he was remanded in judicial custody.
