Recovery rate on the rise to touch 75 per cent in city

Even as the number of positive cases in Chennai crossed 75,000, the recovery rate in the city has been in the rise to reach 75 per cent as on Sunday.

According to the Chennai Corporation data, the recovery rate has been increasing for the past month. On June 12, the recovery rate was at 51.46 per cent.

As on Sunday morning, the city reported a total of 76,157 positive cases, of which 56,947 patients have recovered and were sent home. However, 1,221 persons died due to COVID-19 virus, which is 1.60 per cent. As many as 17,989 cases are under treatment.

The data also revealed that the Royapuram zone, which is worst-hit among the 15 zones, has a higher number of recovered persons than other zones. As many as 8,047 persons have recovered, which is an 85 per cent recovery rate. Except for the Kodambakkam zone, all the other zones have registered more than 70 per cent recovery rate. The Kodambakkam zone has a recovery rate of 69 per cent. Along with Royapuram, Tondiarpet also has crossed 80 per cent recovery.

The highest number of deaths are recorded from Teynampet zone, where 184 persons died. As many as 174 and 166 persons died in Tondiarpet and Royapuram zones.

Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said that even though the cases are decreasing and recovery rate is increasing, the civic body would not stop COVID-19 control measures.
