A fight over garbage disposal turned into a ‘fake’ crime scene of sorts after a software professional shot at two women with an air gun at an apartment complex in Chennai’s western suburbs on Monday night. Police have arrested and remanded the techie. The arrested was identified as M Nagendran, 27, of RR Nagar in Iyyappanthangal.

According to the police, Nagendran, a resident on the first floor of the apartment complex and a 44-year-old businesswoman, staying on the second floor of the same complex, would regularly quarrel over disposal of trash, especially as the woman would keep throwing garbage from the second floor instead of properly disposing it in a trash bin on the ground floor. This despite, Nagendran’s repeated requests.
As the tussle between the two continued, the woman, who runs a cargo service in Guindy, along with her sister who lives in the same neighbourhood, reached Nagendran’s flat on Monday night. Even as he opened the door, the two sisters started screaming at him and it was then that he came out with the air pistol, which the sisters mistook for a real gun, and pointed it at them. Even as the sisters ran for cover, he fired four times. “He did not fire at them but at the stairs. But this led to chaos in the apartment with many residents coming out of their homes after hearing the shots,” a police officer said.
The sisters approached the Porur SRMC police station with a complaint and based on this, Nagendran was arrested on Monday night. He was later remanded. Police also seized the pistol, a Precihole made, which he had purchased online six months ago.
