The injured were identified as Ebi alias Ebinesan, 28, of Villivakkam and his associate Ambrose, 30. Police believe that Ebinesan’s condition is serious, with head injuries. Both are admitted to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

It all started with the two injured, who were consuming liquor in RK Nagar area in Arumbakkam, having a tussle with two men on a bike at around 6.45 pm. The two men were stopped by Ebi, and after a quarrel, their bike was snatched by Ebi and Ambrose. However, the two youths returned with seven others and started attacking Ebi and his friend with sickles. The two were chased and hacked even as members of public ran for cover. The gang later left the scene on their bike.

Police said three special teams have been formed to nab all the gangsters involved.
