Bar sealed in Tirupur for illegal sale

A bar has been sealed by the police in Tirupur for selling liquor illegally during the complete lockdown on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off that the bar on Sirupooluvapatti Road at 15-Velampalayam has been selling liquor illegally from early morning, a joint team comprising officials from Tasmac, revenue department and the police raided the outlet.

It was found to be doing brisk business by allowing customers to drink in its premises, throwing norms to the wind. The liquor was sold at high prices.

The police arrested Veerapandi (28), a staff employed in the bar, and seized 38 liquor bottles before sealing the bar. Further, the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police held inspections in bars located in the city and rural limits in the district to check for violations.

More than 20 persons were booked and over 100 liquor bottles seized for selling liquor illegally. Tasmac outlets and bars were ordered to be closed during the complete lockdown on Sundays since July 5 to contain the spread of COVID-19.
