The incident happened on Thursday evening in Therkupattu village on ECR near Mahabalipuram. The bungalow belongs to Vyjayanthimala of Abiramapuram. The security guard, Rajendran (42) of Cuddalore district, his wife and father, who are staying in separate accommodation within the campus, were taking care of the bungalow for about 10 years.
Three men, who entered the bungalow by scaling the compound wall, attacked Rajendran with a pacer gun and stabbed him with a butcher knife before tying him to a chair. His father and children were tied too. They made Rajendran’s wife open all the rooms in the bungalow to steal valuables. “The gang also removed hard disks from NVRs linked to CCTV cameras,” said an official. As they could not find anything, they asked her to remove her jewellery before misbehaving with her. After a milk vendor entered the bungalow and raised an alarm, the trio escaped by jumping into the Buckingham Canal.
Based on a complaint, Mahabalipuram police registered a case and launched a hunt. They used a sniffer dog, Bravo, and confirmed the trail of the suspects. “We coordinated with the cyber cell and managed to trace the suspects to Chennai,” said ASP Sundaravathanam.
