The toll collection on both the roads was suspended from March 24 when the lockdown came into force to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

Even as the National Highways Authority of India, which had also suspended toll collection during the first lockdown, resumed it from April 20, TNRDC had let the vehicles to pass on freely for over four months. A TNRDC official said that they had suspended the toll collection as the staff could not report to the duty due to restrictions.

With the volume of traffic increasing day-by-day, the official said, they had decided to resume toll collection. Moreover, with restrictions being relaxed most of their staff have returned for work.

On Fastag implementation, the official said that it would be implemented soon following the successful trial operation.
