Even as the 43 nurses were waiting at the pavement near the Minister’s residence around 3.15 pm, a huge branch of a tree from the other side of a compound wall broke and fell in the sudden downpour. Abiramapuram inspector went to the spot and collected their petition, after which the nurses dispersed. They are among the 84 nurses who were recruited in April for COVID duty on the promise of permanent job. However, 52 nurses who were in Chennai were recently told that the jobs won’t be made permanent. They also alleged that salary was not being paid for three months.
