Snatcher trio nabbed, 8 bikes, jewellery seized

A three-member gang, involved in a number of snatching incidents in the city, has been nabbed by a special team of Mylapore police.

On June 10, a woman was robbed of her gold chain on RK Mutt Road by a bike-borne and since a number of such incidents were reported in the neighbourhood, a special team was formed under Kotturpuram Assistant Commissioner KN Sudharshan. The team combed the CCTV footage from the scene of crime up to Ennore and investigation revealed that two different teams of one Santhosh of Perumbakkam were indulging in chain snatching across the city.

Abimanyu (21) and Nazir (20) of Pulianthope and Ajay Rahul (20) of Chitlapakkam were secured and investigation revealed that they targeted lone women walking on the road and those sitting on the window side of autorickshaws. Seven sovereigns of jewellery and eight bikes were seized from them.

Police said the trio has indulged in snatching in Madhavaram, Villivakkam, Kilpauk and Kotturpuram. They were remanded in judicial custody.

Similarly, Velachery police have arrested a 36-year-old man for indulging in a series of burglaries in and around Velachery and seized 40 sovereigns and other valuables. The accused T Prabu of Tiruvannamalai was remanded in judicial custody.
