After many expensive two-wheelers were reported stolen from Sholinganallur, Semmancherry and Kannagi Nagar in the recent past, Adyar Deputy Commissioner V Vikraman formed a special team to nab the culprits.

The team recently arrested Tamilselvan (22) and Ashok (22) from Sholinganallur and remanded them. Based on their inputs, Rupesh (21) and Navin (21) of Sholinganallur, and Ruben (21) of Ranipet were secured. Rupesh is a first-year Computer Science diploma student at a private college and Navin is a final-year mechanical engineering student. Ruben is a two-wheeler mechanic, said police. “Tamilselan and Ashok, part of the gang, would steal bikes and hand them over to the trio. They would remove some of the parts and sell it for Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000. Though the vehicles did not have any documents, the students would buy them because of the low price,” said an official. The team seized eight bikes – three Royal Enfield Bullets, two Yamaha bikes and three KTM bikes, including one that was dismantled – from them. The accused were remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
