Crackdown on ganja continues in city, 242 kg seized in July
Continuing the crackdown against ganja peddlers in the city, the police arrested 17 men from five places, and seized 21 kg of ganja and vehicles from them. Including these, the city police have seized nearly 242 kg ganja and arrested 45 accused in July.

The Kodungaiyur police nabbed two gangs selling ganja on Friday night. V Mohanbabu (38) of Red Hills, K Rajesh (29) of Otteri and V Balaji (40) were secured by SSI Vimalesan and team at Mullai Nagar Bridge junction. Around four kg ganja and a bike were seized from them. Similarly, another team led by SSI Nithyanandam arrested A Gopi (42), A Samuel (38), M Sirajudeen (28) and H Narendran (35) of Otteri with four kg ganja in Moolakadai junction. An autorickshaw, six mobile phones and a two-wheeler were seized. All were remanded in judicial custody.
Sastri Nagar police seized three kg ganja, an autorickshaw and Rs 6,000 from three men, who were remanded in judicial custody on Friday. The Tirumangalam police seized four kg ganja and a two-wheeler from M Krishnamoorthy (30) of Padi, a known offender, who was remanded on Saturday.
The Semmanchery police arrested R Vijaya (40), Sathya (32) and T Balu (50) in possession of four kg ganja, while Chitlapakkam police seized 1.2 kg ganja from E Rajkumar (22) of Chromepet. In all, the city police seized more than 241 kg ganja, including 94 kg on July 27, 42 kg on July 13 and 30 kg on July 25.
