“The Chief minister has ordered that issuance of e-pass to the public with valid reasons, including travel to attend a marriage, funeral or medical emergency, be liberalised. Now we have added a new category called work-related in the e-pass portal. This is the first step to ease issuance of the e-pass,” he told reporters.

At present, a total of 1.7 lakh e-passes have been issued in the city, he said, asking the public applying for the e-pass to compulsorily upload Aadhaar and necessary documents for the pass to be approved. “High positivity rate in Chennai has been brought down because of the strict enforcement of restrictions on the movement of people. The restrictions were imposed only for the larger good,” he said.

To a query on the application made by the people in Chennai been summarily rejected by the District Administration, he said that the Chief Secretary has issued strict orders on routine automatic rejection of the e-pass application of Chennai people. “The Chief Secretary directed District Collectors not to reject the application with proper documents without any reasons,” he added.
