Number of streets reporting new cases comes down by 100 in 15 days
While the number of active cases in the city is coming down, the number of streets with new cases has also decreased to less than 500 from more than 600 in the past 15 days.

According to Greater Chennai Corporation data, the 1,042 new cases reported in the city on Tuesday were from 493 streets. Of the 493 streets with new cases, Ambattur zone has the highest number with 91 streets reported on Tuesday. Teynampet and Anna Nagar zones had reported new cases from 57 and 52 streets respectively. As many as 43 streets in Kodambakkam reported new cases.
It may be noted that the number of streets with new cases have come down from 613 on July 23 to 493 currently. “As of now, around 4,000 streets in the city have active cases. A meeting was conducted on Wednesday with the officials of central zones, from where a higher number of cases are being reported. The field officials have been asked to intensify the drive,” an official said.
Also, the city had more than 7,800 streets with active cases on June 17, which has come down to around 4,000 streets on Tuesday day. During the period, the total number of active cases have come down to 11,856 cases from 17,331 cases. There are as many as 39,537 streets in the city.
Meanwhile, the number of containment zones in the city have also come down by half in three days from August 2. As on August 2, the city had 46 containment zones, whereas, on Wednesday, the city had only 24 containment zones. As usual, all the containment zones, except one, are in central Chennai zones such as Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet and Kodambakkam. One containment zone in Valasaravakkam zone. The decrease in the number of containment zones suggests that the city has managed to control the COVID-19 cluster.
