Duo behind series of robberies in city arrested

Kilpauk police arrested a duo behind a series of robberies in different parts of the city and seized two bikes and six mobile phones.

The accused were identified as D Madhavan (19) and D Vijayakumar (19) of Periamet and police said they were wanted in several robbery and snatching cases.

On Sunday morning, the duo snatched a mobile phone from one Shafiullal on Kellys Road and based on his complaint, police registered a case and combed the CCTV footage. The accused were easily identified as the duo already has a few cases pending against them and were secured from their houses in Periamet. Investigation revealed that the duo was behind the robbery reported in Anna Salai police station on Saturday in which a security guard of a vernacular newspaper suffered a knife attack and had to get sutures on his head as well as a snatching in Nungambakkam.

Inspector Dhanalakshmi of Kilpauk station said the duo was wanted in another seven cases. After six mobile phones and two bikes used for the offences were seized, the duo was remanded. Similarly, Koyambedu police arrested two for robbing a car driver at knifepoint at Nerkundram.
