The deceased Prabavathi (57) alias Maheshwari lived with her sisters Rajeshwari (61) and Vijayalakshmi (59) and the trio made a living out of rag-picking. While Prabavathi was found dead on the pavement in July, Secretariat Colony police decided to carry out the funeral on their own.

However, police found her two sisters living on the pavement recently and asked them why they did not stay in their slum clearance board flat in Otteri. Since the sisters said they were not able to clear the waste at home, police sought Corporation workers’ help. They found a pot full of coins, a sack full of currencies and seven sovereign jewellery. The coins and currencies counted to Rs 2 lakh, apart from soiled Rs 500 and 1,000 notes amounting to Rs 40,000.
