Leased house in city, said to belong to former CJI, turns into gambling den
A special team from City police busted a gambling den that functioned from an apartment at a posh residential area in Raja Annamalai Puram on Thursday night. One of the accused reportedly claimed that the apartment belonged to former Kerala Governor and retired Chief Justice of India, P Sathasivam, which was let out on lease three years ago.

The police team arrested 29 persons, including a local leader from the ruling AIADMK, and took them to Foreshore Estate police station. They were later released on personal bail. Sources said the team seized Rs 9.5 lakh and 10 decks of cards from the apartment on Karpagam Avenue.
According to the police, the apartment was being used for gambling for the past few months. The police received a tipoff about it, which led to the raid by the special team formed by Mylapore Deputy Commissioner Shashank Sai. During questioning, an accused claimed that one Prabhu had taken it on lease from the former Governor.
This came days after the Narcotics Control Bureau raided a rented house belonging to a CB-CID officer, located in a similarly upscale area in Kilpauk, which was used as narcotics hub.
