Passersby noticed the head of man on an iron railing near Gummidipoondi railway station on Sunday morning and the police were alerted. The Gummidipoondi Sipcot police rushed to the spot and retrieved the head and they received information of a corpse lying in a Eucalyptus farm in New Gummidipoondi four kilometres away. The legs had been cut off from the ankle and fingers, too, were chopped off.
The deceased was identified as S Madhavan of Athupakkam village. He had two murder cases pending against him and had been released on bail only two weeks ago. The police suspect that he could have been murdered to avenge one of the cases he was involved in and said that Madhavan had been arrested again in May this year in connection with another murder case and came out on bail on July 29.
While his body was sent to Government Ponneri hospital for post-mortem examination, forensic experts and sniffer dog rushed to the spot. The sniffer dog ran towards Perumachery for a kilometre and stopped, the police said.
They added that Madhavan’s head has been placed in the same area where three men were murdered in January last year, raising the suspicion of murder for revenge. They also suspect that the murderers might have got Madhavan drunk in the farm before murdering him. “They must have beheaded him there and brought it to the railway station,” said an officer. CCTV cameras between the farm and the station are being combed for possible clues.
