DA case: Ex-prohibition wing DSP grilled

The officer in question M Ramakrishnan’s retirement benefits were held back by the department after the DVAC was asked to probe his illegally amassed wealth. The Anti-Corruption Agency has cited Ramakrishnan and his wife Thiruvallarselvi as accused in the case. Ramakrishnan joined as sub-inspector in the police force in September 1987 and his career in the department ended in March this year. He had served in various wings and his last posting was DSP, EOW in Coimbatore.

The DVAC, in the FIR, noted that all his children -- one son and two daughters -- had completed professional courses in private colleges.

At the beginning of the check period, he had assets worth just over Rs 2 lakh. At the end of check period he had assets worth Rs 57.75 lakh. He and his family had legally earned Rs 76 lakh during the check period and their expenses were Rs 94 lakh.

After due calculations, the DVAC pegged his illegal income at Rs 73.9 lakh, which is 97 per cent excess than the income from his known sources, DVAC said.
