Professor gowri named Madras University Vice-Chancellor
After months of speculations and uncertainties, Professor S Gowri, a senior faculty from Anna University, was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Madras University by Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Thursday. The Governor also appointed Dr G Sugumar as the V-C of Dr J Jayalalithaa Fisheries University.

Both Vice-Chancellors were appointed for a period of three years with effect from the date of their assumption of office.
Professor Gowri, a postdoctoral fellow of Singapore-based Nanyang Technological University, has a rich teaching experience of 37 years. He is presently serving a director of the Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC), an inter-university centre of the University Grants Commission at Anna University. He was also an honorary professor in the department of Manufacturing Engineering at the varsity, and a visiting professor and visiting faculty of institutions in Germany and Singapore.
He also published 94 research papers, presented 30 research papers in international conferences, and authored five books, said a statement from Raj Bhavan, adding that he also hold three patents. He was also an independent director of TANSI, TACTV and TEXCO, and has contributed to Swayam MOOCS and DTH of the Centre. He is the channel coordinator of Daksh HD, an educational TV channel from the Union Education Ministry, the statement added.
Professor Sugumar has a teaching experience of 33 years and is presently the professor and head of the Department of Fish Processing Technology, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi
