Gang hacks student to death in Chengalpattu

A college student, who worked as a food delivery boy during the lockdown period, was chased and hacked to death by a 10-member group near Kelambakkam on Friday night. Local police suspect the role of ganja peddlers in the murder.

Harish (21), a final year student if a private college on OMR, was working as a food delivery boy for the last five months during lockdown, officials said. On Friday night, as Harish and friends were having food near his house, a group of 10 men came there on autorickshaws with sickles and knives. Harish tried to escape, but they chased and hacked him to death, and escaped from the spot.

Chengalpattu SP D Kannan and officials from local station came to the spot and sent the body to Chengalpattu government hospital for post-mortem examination. Sources said that Harish was in contact with a few ganja peddlers who could have murdered him.

In another case, Ethiappan (70), a wage worker from Visar village near Kancheepuram, was found murdered near a PDS shop in the locality. Officials from Kancheepuram Taluk station said his head was smashed with a stone.
