Gold worth Rs 36.8L seized from 3 at airport

Six gold bars, weighing 696 grams and valued at Rs 36.8 lakh, were recovered from three persons who arrived at the Chennai airport on Monday.

According to a release from Air Customs, three passengers, two from Hyderabad and one from Vijayawada, who arrived from Riyadh by an Indigo flight were intercepted at the exit point on suspicion. A search revealed that the trio was hiding two gold bars each in their trouser pockets, each weighing 10 tolas or 116 grams. A total of six gold bars, weighing 696 grams were recovered and seized under Customs Act 1962. Further investigation is on.
