However, the data suggest that the overall active case rate in the city remained 10 per cent on both August 16 and August 26. On August 26, the city had reported 1,13,092 cases and 2,638 COVID-19 deaths. The city had 13,517 active cases. When asked, a field-level official attached to Thiru Vi Ka Nagar zone said that testing has been increased in the zone.
“We are testing more than 500 samples every day in the zone. Due to this, we are finding more new cases. However, the situation is better than the earlier days of the spread, when we were busy. Now, the workload has come down owing to a lesser number of the cases,” he said.
The official added that officials in the divisions are testing all the contacts of the infected persons to stop further spread. Meanwhile, Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash held a meeting with the monitoring officials of five zones including Thiru Vi Ka Nagar to review COVID-19 control measures in the zones.
