Rs 1.83 crore collected from violators

The Greater Chennai Corporation has collected a whopping Rs 1.83 Crore as penalty from shops and commercial establishments for violating social distancing norms.

A Chennai Corporation statement said that the penalty was collected between April 1 to August 26. “The penalty was collected from the persons roaming outside without wearing masks and shops and commercial establishments that violated social distancing and government norms in COVID19 control measures,” the release said. The release added that Harmander Singh, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department department secretary, conducted a meeting at Ripon Building premises. During the meeting, Harmander Singh instructed the Chennai Corporation officials to seal the shops and other establishments including banks if they found to be violating social distancing norms. “Penalty should be collected from them and legal action should be taken,” he said.
