The bomb exploded near Tiruporur Panchayat office around 9.30 pm on Friday. A team from Tiruporur police who rushed to the spot found two men lying in a pool of blood. They were identified as Vignesh (28) and Ashok (30) of Chengalpattu, both history-sheeters. They were admitted to the Chengalpattu government hospital.
During investigation, police found that they were travelling to Kelambakkam to kill some rowdies there before the accidental explosion put paid to their plans. Officials found that they had brought the bomb from Akash, Sanjay, Vicky, and Abbas from Nattam village in Chengalpattu, who were arrested on Saturday. DIG B Shamoondeswari and SP D Kannan who visited the spot found a bag there. When it was opened after checking with metal detectors, officials found two bank passbooks, long knives and a liquor bottle. The passbooks belonged to Vignesh, but had different surnames.
