HC stays suit proceedings against church

Justice PT Asha directed the stay on a plea moved by the administrator seeking to quash the suit on the file of Additional Munsif Court, Thanjavur, moved by Rev C Ravi over managing the shopping complex reportedly under his management. He had claimed that the administrator had been appointed only for the purpose of holding elections.
However, Justice Asha noted that under the HC order dated July 31, 2018, an interim administrator, a retired judge of the High Court, had been appointed to administer and manage the IELC and its assets till election was conducted.
Also, the judge pointed out, the High Court by its order dated July 24 had clearly injuncted Ravi from collecting the monthly rents from any of the tenants and had instead directed all the tenants to deposit the monthly rents into the bank account of the IELC Trust Association with the Canara Bank.
However, Ravi suppressed these facts while filing the suit. “The fact that the plaintiff has impleaded the secretary of the IELC itself shows the subterfuge being practised by Rev Ravi,” Justice Asha added, granting the interim stay.
