The arrested, Saravanan (46), had been working as a temple executive officer for more than 10 temples in Kancheepuram. Police said a few months ago Valakarutheeswarar temple priest Nagaraj passed away. Later Saravanan was asked to recommend Nagaraj’s son, Hari as the Archakar of the temple. Police sources said Saravanan sought Rs 1.4 lakh from Hari for recommending his name. Though Hari requested him to reduce the bribe amount, Nagaraj refused to after which Hari informed the DVAC wing in Kancheepuram. DVAC DSP Kalaiselvan, who registered a case, gave Hari Rs 40,000 of powdered cash for handing it over as advance to Saravanan. On Wednesday, when Hari handed over the money to Saravanan at his office, the DVAC officials caught him red-handed.
