Police said Rajasekar (37), deputy secretary of St Thomas Mount unit of DMDK and a realtor was standing outside his house at around 9.30 pm on Thursday when a group on two-wheelers hurled country bombs on him and his house. After the bomb hurled at Rajasekar failed to go off, the group attacked him with wooden logs and knives. Rajasekar was rushed to a private hospital, and Pallikaranai police and the bomb squad held inquiries.
Later, around 10.30 pm, a group hurled two crude bombs at the house of a DMK cadre and advocate, Manonithi in Vengaivasal. Police said there were no causalities but the front portion of the house got damaged. Manonithi’s mother Vanaja, a former president of Vengaivasal panchayat, filed a complaint with Pallikaranai police and St Thomas Mount DC K Prabhakar visited the spot and held inquires.
Police said Rajasekar had issues with realtor Arul in the locality and the latter could have planned the attack. Since Arul is the supporter of Manonithi, Rajasekar’s group attacked the latter’s house in return.
After investigation, police arrested five men from both the groups. They were identified as Arul (28), Arun Kumar (27) and Rajesh (24)of Perumbakkam, Vignesh (20) of Thiruvanmaiyur, and Aravind (20) of Sholinganalur.
