Board nod for resumption of EMU awaited
The EMU services are just a step away from restarting, with the Southern Railway (SR) officials preparing a schedule to operate 82 pairs of local trains from Chennai to Chengalpattu, Gummidipoondi, Arakkonam and Tiruttani besides MRTS services connecting Velachery and Beach. Though the proposal was to resume service from Monday, the Railway Board (RB) is yet to grant approval.

However, after a copy of the schedule was circulated online, Southern Railway CPRO B Guganesan clarified that no official announcement has been made so far.
According to schedule that did the rounds on Sunday, the proposal is to run 26 services between Beach and Tambaram, 23 between Beach and Chengalpattu, 14 between Gummidipoondi and Tambaram, 9 services between Gummidipoondi and Chengalpattu, and 4 between Gummidipoondi and Tiruvallur. Similarly, 38 services were proposed between Moore Market Complex (MMC) and Arakkonam, 17 between MMC and Tiruttani, and 15 MRTS services between Velachery and Beach.
A senior official said the schedule was forwarded to the board and employees were advised to be ready for resumption of services. An operations department staff confirmed the communication from the divisional headquarters, and said they have been asked to be ready to resume duty from Monday.
Some officials, on condition of anonymity, said the confusion could have been avoided if SR officially confirmed that the proposal was sent to the board.
