The arrested were identified as Muthukumar (36), Veerabathiran (33) and Gopi (33). All of them are residents of Gandhi Nagar in West Tambaram. The police said that it was Muthukumar’s birthday on Monday and his friends planned to cut a cake in the middle of the street. In the evening, they blocked the street and decorated it with lights.

While Muthukumar and their friends were dancing on the road, Johnson (35) from the same locality came home after consuming liquor. The police said Johnson, who noticed that the street was blocked, quarrelled with Muthukumar and his friends and kicked the table and damaged all the decorations. Angered over this, the gang began to attack Johnson but the public intercepted and rescued Johnson.

However, Muthukumar and his friends planned revenge and went to Johnson’s house but he had gone to his in-law’s house in Mudichur. Muthukumar, along with two of his friends, went there around 11 pm and attacked Johnson before escaping from the spot.

Johnson, who suffered injuries, was taken to a private hospital nearby and the Peerkankaranai police registered a case and arrested Muthukumar and both his friends after a search. Further investigations are on.
