High Court: Increase water supply to Chennai
Even as the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) claimed that the quantity of water supplied was sufficient for domestic purposes and also hand wash in view of the coronavirus pandemic, the Madras High Court on Monday directed it to consider increasing the quantum of supply as the influx of people returning to the city from other districts is on the rise.

A division bench comprising Justice MM Sundresh and Justice R Hemalatha made the observation on a plea which sought for a minimum supply of three hours a day through tankers to all schools and colleges in Chennai till the coronavirus scare subsided.
Metro Water Superintending Engineer (Water Treatment and Transmission) T Samuel Johnson informed the court that 650 million litres of water was being supplied daily in Chennai city that has a population of around 75 lakh.
