3 tonnes of gutkha seized in Kodungaiyur
City police have seized three tonnes of gutkha, hoarded in a godown in Kodungaiyur and arrested the supplier, while the main accused remains absconding.

Based on a tip-off, Washermenpet Assistant Commissioner PP Julius Ceaser and team raided a godown at Vivekananda Nagar. As much as 3,000 kg of gutkha products, hoarded in the warehouse, were seized and K Vinothkumar of Vyasarpadi was arrested.
Investigation revealed that Anju Babu (46) of Kondithope rented the godown to hide the gutkha being smuggled from other states and Vinothkumar was used as a supplier to deliver them to shops in the locality. An autorickshaw used for the purpose was seized and Vinothkumar was handed over to Kodungaiyur police. He was remanded and a hunt has been launched for Anju Babu.
Similarly, Seven Wells police arrested two men for hiding 216 kg gutkha in a godown. The accused R Rajkumar (43) of Choolai and M Shankar (45) of Old Washermenpet were remanded in judicial custody.
