Days after reward, cop shunted out for link with criminals
Merely days after he was rewarded by the city police Commissioner for being part of the special team that busted a gutkha selling network and seized around 3,000 kg of the banned tobacco product, a Head Constable attached to RK Nagar police station was shunted out to the police control room for his alleged ‘connection’ with offenders.

On September 13, a special team led by Assistant Commissioner Julius Ceaser conducted raids at several parts in Kodungaiyur and nabbed a man who was involved in gutkha sale. During the operation, the team seized a whopping 3,000 kg of gutkha concealed inside a godown there.
To appreciate the efforts of the personnel involved in the raids, city police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal rewarded them the next day. Among those who collected the reward and personal appreciation from the top cop was head constable Malaimathi Vijayan was part of the law and order wing.
However, Joint Commissioner (North) V Balakrishnan received information that the head constable was connected to criminal elements in the jurisdiction. This led to an inquiry, which confirmed that the allegations against head constable Malaimathi Vijayan were true. Following this, he was moved to the control room, sources said.
