“We identified history-sheeters in the district who are inactive. They took an oath in front of respective jurisdiction DSP promising not to indulge in any illegal activity. They will be monitored and assistance will be provided to set up any business or to get a job,” said Tiruvallur SP P Aravindhan.

According to police records, the district has over 740 history-sheeters. “In the first phase, 89 of them were identified. They have no recent history of crime, and took the pledge to continue to stay away from criminal activities,” said an official.

“If these 89 stay away from criminal activities in the coming months, the history-sheeter tag against them will be removed,” added another official. “A person with a history-sheeter tag will be under police scanner on a regular basis. So most of them would prefer to get rid of the tag,” added the official.
