Two arrested with over 400kg gutkha, worth Rs 8 lakh, near Kancheepuram

Police seized over 400 kg of gutkha and Hans, worth Rs 8 lakh, and seized two vans, a car and a bike near Kancheepuram.

While two persons were arrested, a search is on to nab two others. The police received information that a group is smuggling gutka from Bangalore on a car and following that, on Wednesday night, resorted to vehicle check on Bangalore-Chennai national highway. In the wee hours of Thursday, the police noticed four men shifting parcels from a van near Thimasamuthuram near Kancheepuram. After seeing the police they tried to escape but police managed to nab two of them. During the inquiry, police identified them as Veeramani (37) of Thiruverkadu and Siva (38) of Thiruvanamalai. They admitted to smuggling gutka in van and cars from Karnataka and selling them in Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu. Both were remanded in judicial custody and sent to prison.
