CPM State secy K Balakrishnan tests positive

CPM State secretary K Balakrishnan became the latest political leader Tamil Nadu to contract the coronavirus infection. He has been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. Announcing that he had tested positive for COVID-19, Balakrishnan said in a social media post that he was keeping well.

DMK president MK Stalin spoke to Balakrishnan over phone to enquire about his health condition. “I came to know senior Congress leader KV Thangkabalu was unwell and that CPM State secretary K Balakrishnan got infected by COVID-19. I spoke to both them over the phone and enquired about their health. I hope you both get well soon,” he posted on Twitter.

Manithaneya Makkal Katchi president MH Jawahirullah also wished Balakrishnan for an early recovery from the infection. “I pray that soon you will be fully recovered and engage in your vibrant public work as always,” he posted on his social media account.

Balakrishnan is the latest leader to contract the infection. Recently, DMDK founder-president and former Opposition Leader Vijayakant, and his wife and party treasurer Premalatha had tested positive and was admitted to a private hospital in city. He was discharged after treatment.

Many others, including State Ministers, were infected by the virus in the last few months.
