Well-dressed ‘customer’ flees with 9-sovereign chain
Police are searching for a youth who fled after grabbing a nine-sovereign gold chain at a jewellery shop in Medavakkam on Wednesday.

Police said the incident happened at a shop owned by Rathanlal at Medavakkam Bazaar. On Wednesday afternoon, a well-dressed youth visited the shop and expressed keenness to buy a gold chain in one of the latest designs. When Rathanlal requested him to be seated, the youth said that he needs to go urgently as friends are waiting in a car outside the shop.
Police said the youth looked all the designs one by one for nearly 15 minutes. Later, he took a nine-sovereign gold chain and started to negotiate the price with Rathanlal. Then, all of a sudden, he rushed out of the shop with the chain and though Rathanlal tried to stop him escaped from the spot. On information, Pallikaranai police arrived at the spot and investigated.
The police have registered a case and are trying to trace the man with the help of CCTV footage.
COVID patients hit by burglary at home
An aged couple returned home after treatment for COVID-19 in Madipakkam on Wednesday only to find their house and nine sovereigns of gold ornaments and a diamond ring stolen.
Navaneethakrishan (73) of Karthikeyapuram in Madipakkam, a retried bank staff, and his wife Saraswathi (69) had tested positive for COVID19. They were admitted to a private hospital in Chromepet on October 5.
Police said the elderly couple was cured of the virus and got discharged from the hospital on Wednesday evening. When they returned, they found the front door broke open and gold ornaments and a diamond ring missing.
Madipakkam police arrived at the spot and registered a case. They are trying to identify the robbers with the help of CCTV cameras in the locality.
