Jeyapandi of Karur was secured when he visited his relatives’ house in Chennai. He had submitted the documents in 2018. However, they were found out to be forged during verification and a formal complaint was lodged at Arumbakkam police station. After a case was registered, Jeyapandi went absconding. After receiving information that he was in Avadi to meet his relatives, a police team rushed there. However, Jeyapandi had left for Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus to board a bus to Karur. They then rushed to the CMBT and secured him. During interrogation, Jeyapandi reportedly said he received the fake certificates for Rs 25 lakh from three men, identified as Selvaraj, Chidambaram Gautam and Martin in Tiruchy.

Jeyapandi was booked under six sections and remanded in judicial custody.
