The incident happened around 10.30 pm at an apartment on NRT Road in Royapuram. Police said that Syed Ibrahim Shah (57), who owns a lodge on Angamuthu Street in Mannady, often quarrels with wife Barakath Unnisa (40) due to differences.

On Saturday night too, a fight broke out between the couple and Syed Ibrahim Shah allegedly called his wife’s nephew (sister Nasiath Nisha’s son) Ansarudhin (27) and yelled at him for intervening in their family issues.

After a heated argument over the phone, Ansarudhin went to Syed Ibrahim Shah’s house with four friends. While Ansarudhin and one of his friends Mani alone entered the house on the fourth floor, since Barakath Unnisa told Ansarudhin that her husband is hiding in the bathroom, Ansarudhin knocked on the bathroom door.

However, Syed Ibrahim Shah who had a revolver with him opened the bathroom door and fired at Ansarudhin. While Ansarudhin received a bullet injury in his hand, Syed Ibrahim Shah too is suspected to have shot himself in the hand by mistake. Ansarudhin managed to flee the house and got himself admitted at Government Stanley Hospital. While Syed Ibrahim Shah has been admitted at a private hospital on Greams Road. Both are said to be out of danger.

On information, Royapuram police rushed to the spot and seized the revolver, eight bullets and two empty cases. A case has been registered and further investigation is on. Police said that Syed Ibrahim Shah holds a licence to keep the revolver.
