Number of recoveries outnumber new cases in 30 of 37 districts

The number of COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu dropped below 4,000 for the first time since July 11. On Sunday, 3,914 new cases were reported in the State, including 1,036 in Chennai. Including these, the total number of cases reported in Tamil Nadu so far stands at 6,87,400. The State also added 56 more deaths to the toll.

According to the bulletin from the State Health Department on Sunday, 30 of the 37 districts had more recoveries than new cases. Among the remaining seven, the difference between new cases and recovered was more than 10 only at Kancheepuram, Thoothukudi and Tirupur.

The consistent fall in new cases was recorded not just in the case of overall new cases, but also from hotspot districts like Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Salem. On Sunday, Coimbatore recorded 319 cases, while it was 195 cases in Tiruvallur. Among other districts, Salem reported 188 cases, Chengalpattu 174 cases and Tirupur 166 cases.

In the last 24 hours, 4,929 more persons were discharged after treatment across the State. This has brought down active cases in the State below 40,000 mark, to 39,121. Of these, 12,583 active cases are in Chennai alone.

As many as 56 COVID deaths were notified on Sunday, including 29 deaths at private hospitals and the remaining at government hospitals. This has taken the total toll to 10,643. Of the deceased, only one of them did not have any underlying comorbid conditions.

Keeping up the high testing rate, the 192 facilities in the State tested 90,286 samples in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of samples tested to 89,46,566. So far, 86,96,455 persons have been tested for the infection in the State.
