The arrested persons were identified as Nagaraj and his son Srinath (24) of Kancheepuram. According to the police, Nagaraj owned a 2.3 acre land in Thirupukuli village near the National Highway in Kancheepuram. In 2019, Akshay from Mamallan Nagar in Kancheepuram, a builder, decided to buy the land for Rs 1.39 crore. He paid an advance of Rs 80 lakh to Nagaraj and they signed an agreement.

However, after collecting the advance amount, Nagaraj did not take any effort to register the land and did not return the money to Akshay. After waiting for the money for long, Akshay filed a complaint with the Kancheepuram Crime Branch. During the investigation, the police found that Nagaraj and Srinath had already signed another agreement to sell the land to a person identified as Kannan. On Monday, the police arrested both father and son, who were remanded in judicial custody. It was only a week ago that Nagaraj had joined the BJP at a meeting attended by the party’s State president L Murugan.
