Though the CCTV footage shows just one man entering the premises by scaling the compound wall, police suspect that more than one person could be involved.
Around 1 am, a masked man entered the office on the first floor of the building on Moosa Street in T Nagar and gained entry by breaking open the door before escaping with the jewels kept in the trays inside a cupboard.
The owners who reached the office on Wednesday morning were shocked to find the doors open and alerted police. Mambalam police reached the spot and conducted inquiries. Police said the victims — father and his two sons — were into buying gold as bars and get jewellery designed to sell them to different showrooms.
“They show the jewellery to shop owners who visit them and sell to those who show interest. So, the stolen two kg of jewellery were samples kept in the trays. The building had just a wooden door and cupboards which made the job easier for the burglar,” said a senior police official.
Of two kg jewellery, one kg was non-diamond and the other diamond jewels, said police, adding that a hunt has been launched for the suspects.
