Gold worth Rs 16.7L seized, Thondi man from Dubai held
Customs officials seized gold worthRs 16.7 lakh at the Chennai airport and arrested a passenger on Thursday.

Based on intelligence that gold was likely to be smuggled from Dubai, one Masthan Gani (49) of Thondi in Tamil Nadu, who arrived from Dubai, was intercepted at the exit on suspicion of carrying gold. On persistent questioning, he confessed to carrying gold in his rectum.
On personal search, the Customs recovered one bundle of gold paste from rectum and on extraction, 215 grams of gold was recovered from it.
Further, two gold cut bits weighing 50 grams were recovered from his pants pocket.
The seized 315 grams of gold is worth Rs 16.7 lakh, said Customs adding that Masthan Gani has been arrested as he had an earlier offence registered against him. Further investigation is under progress.
