Ganja haul: 205 kg from Andhra, 38 kg from Assam, 7 held
A special team from the State Narcotic Intelligence Bureau (NIB) arrested a gang of four for smuggling ganja from Andhra Pradesh, and seized 205 kg of ganja from them.

The NIB sources said the gang was smuggling dry ganja from Visakhapatnam to Kerala in a lorry and taking it via Minjur-Vandalur Road when the narco cops intercepted them, near Nazarathpet on Thursday. On search, police found eight gunny bags of dry ganja. The arrested are M Sudhakar, 36 of Kambam, and Akhilesh, 28, Shamseer, 29, and Shoaib, 25 of Kozhikode in Kerala.
The accused were booked under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and remanded in judicial custody.
Trio held at Chennai Central
Meanwhile, the Railway police on Friday seized 38 kg ganja from three men who smuggled the contraband in six bags to the city from Assam by train.
The accused, identified as Lal Bahadur (29) Bongaigoan, H Nur Islam (26) of Bongaigaon and R Mofipui Islam (23) of Barbeta, Assam, were secured on suspicion when they reached Chennai Central in Kamakhya-Yashwantpur special train around 11 am.
The six bags in their possession were searched by railway police and bundles of ganja, weighing 38 kg, were seized. The trio was arrested and further investigation is on to ascertain who the trio was planning to supply the ganja to.
