Heavy rains in several parts of State, flights delayed

Several parts of Chennai, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Tiruvarur, Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, and Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur and Tiruvallur received at least 5 cm of rainfall on Sunday as heavy rainfall lashed various parts of State.

While Guindy, Meenambakkam, Nungambakkam, Adyar and other areas received at least 4-5 cm of rainfall in Chennai, Kelambakkam and other neighbouring areas received as high as 9 cm.

Several flights were delayed due to heavy rains in the early hours on Sunday at Chennai airport. The special passenger flight from the international airport to Dubai was delayed by about 30 minutes due to bad weather.

As per the Regional Meteorological Centre, the trough formation in Easterlies is directed towards north Tamil Nadu and thunderstorms with light to moderate rain are likely to occur at many places over interior Tamil Nadu in next 48 hours.

Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Cuddalore, Thoothukudi, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam on Monday. Meanwhile, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy in Chennai and thunderstorms with light to heavy rains are expected in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the city are likely to be 30 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively.

Weather blogger Pradeep John stated that heavy rains are expected in next few days in South Chennai and convergence of rains can move to other parts of the city.
